We'll have the traditional turkey and stuffing and pumpkin pie and so forth...but I'm looking to also make something different but fits in with everything else at the same time. Any ideas? What are some different Thanksgiving recipes?
One of the newest magazines out now has Paula Dean featured on the front. looked through it briefly this morning while waiting to get my hair cut.
She took Jelled Cranberry Sauce and sliced it. Made a cream cheese and pecan filling and made the sliced cranberry into sandwiches, sort of. It looked really good and different. She had them placed so neatly on the dish. All it was was whipped cream cheese with pecan pieces sandwiched between two slices of the jelled cranberry sauce. I bet it would be good with cranberries (whole/cooked) mixed in as well or even candied orange zest!
My all time favorite has got to be my Carrot Souffle';. I got the recipe from Southern Living. I substitute real sugar with Splenda but I use the real butter. Nothing takes the place of real butter when baking. There are many different versions of Carrot Souffle' Recipes. Use ask.com and pick the one that suites you. You will never know you are eating carrots and it is like a dessert. My son loves it. I fix this and prefer it over Sweet Potato Souffle';. If you ever make one you will always make one!
Another favorite of mine is the dressing. I also use Paula Dean's recipe. It has never failed me and comes out perfect every time!
I may try her Coke Glazed Ham Recipe this year. It looked so good with the Pineapple on top.
We always have deviled eggs. Egg yellows + mayo + sweet pickle relish. Sprinkle with Paprika.
On the day of I always make a big crock pot full of cheese dip with rotel, sausage, mushroom soup and velveta cheese. I also get wontons and put them in muffin cups and bake them to make a bowl. I mix ground sausage (or you can use hamburger) and 1 pkt. ranch dressing along with grated cheese and fill the cups and bake again until bubbly and that is what we eat off of until the BIG meal is ready. Don't know why but it is always requested by my son on all the holiday's.
I am sooooo hungry now! What are some different Thanksgiving recipes?
I make green bean casserole and broccoli cheese and rice, twice baked sweet potatoes, chocolate pudding cream cheese pie. um can't wait
We normally have turkey, sweet potato casserole, Mashed potatoes, Homemade gravy, stuffing, some sort of bastardized vegetable from a can, Deviled eggs, and bread pudding for dessert with caramel sauce.
Cranberry pink stuff
Mix 1 can of crushed pineapple (drained)
1 container of small curd cottage cheese (low fat or regular)
1 container of cool whip or other whipped topping
1 box of dry cranberry flavored jello
stir together until well mixed. Chill and serve either as a salad or dessert.
I made a fresh cranberry/orange dressing a couple years ago that was a huge hit. Also, a cranberry apple pie ... I was really into cranberries one year!
You can also add a different twist to an old recipe (spinach %26amp; sausage in your stuffing for example...yum!).

saw this in an email letter i get. it looks kind of fancy, but it sure is different:
Saut茅ed Brussels Sprouts and Squash with Fried Sage
HEALTHY
VEGETARIAN
ACTIVE TIME: 45 MIN
SERVES: 8
This super-autumnal dish offers the unusual combination of brussels sprouts and butternut squash, which generally stand on their own as side dishes. The brussels sprouts leaves are savory, the chunks of squash are tender and sweet, and the fried sage garnish is pungent and crunchy.
ingredients
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
16 large sage leaves
Salt and freshly ground pepper
2 pounds brussels sprouts, trimmed and separated into individual leaves
1 medium butternut squash (1 1/2 pounds), peeled and cut into 3/4-inch cubes
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon snipped chives
directions
In a small skillet, heat 1/4 cup of the olive oil. Add the sage leaves and fry over high heat until deep green and translucent, about 1 minute. Transfer to a paper towel鈥搇ined plate to cool. Season with salt and pepper.
Bring a medium saucepan of salted water to a boil. Fill a large bowl with ice water. Blanch the brussels sprout leaves in the boiling water until tender, about 2 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the leaves to the ice water to cool. Drain and pat dry.
Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large, deep skillet. Add the squash and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned in spots, about 8 minutes. Add the butter and continue cooking until the squash is tender, about 7 minutes longer. Add the brussels sprout leaves, season with salt and pepper and cook until heated through, about 3 minutes. Transfer to a bowl, scatter the fried sage and chives on top and serve.
MAKE AHEAD The vegetables can be refrigerated overnight; rewarm before serving. Store the fried sage in an airtight container at room temperature
I know it's a little silly, but if you or anyone at your table is trying to watch their weight, you can have a tossed salad as a side. We do that at our dinner and it's been a real hit with those of us who would rather not indulge so much in the stuffing, casseroles, %26amp; potatoes!
Good luck!
Have you ever tried a simple Italian meal for Thanksgiving? I did it one year and it blew everybody away. My menu was mostacholli with tomato sauce and Alfredo sauce. Meatballs and Italian sausages. A Caesar salad. And for dessert a Tiramitsu. This menu is also good for Christoffer Columbus day. You can get all the recipes on foodnetwork.com or thaysmyhome.com
