Thanksgiving Recipes?

I need some recipes besides the traditional Thanksgiving meal dishes. I want my own food traditions, not always the norm ones. (Of course I still want turkey :) )

For example: my mother made a brocoli, cheese, and rice dish and we have it every year.

Now I live on my own and I want my own traditions. Help please?Thanksgiving Recipes?

you have to experiment , and determine what you are good and can make with consistency every year . most recipes people brag about are not that incredible but are quite simple ... the reputation / freindship sort of comradry starts and everyone brags about each persons contributions . oh this is the best ever . it's a holiday about traditions .

new recipes are always appreciated but it takes years to establish the

butternut or acorn squashes are great with thanksgiving

there is a great coolwhip double whip/layer pumpkin pie that is really good / easy to make

make a new stuffing .. experiment with an sage recipe or try a sweet one with dried fruits/nuts

corn souffle is good

apple pie can be made ahead and is a good choice

also hot bread / fresh rolls whole wheat or white are always a hit .

this holiday is a lot of work ... so be careful the traditions of what you decide :-) you will have less and less time and feel less and less better as you get older and people will not stop expecting you to provide the labor intensive meals. you will get to the point you will be thrilled to be taken out to dinner for thanksgiving .lol.
You should have asked two weeks ago, before Thanksgiving.
I like to make cranberry sauce myself, from fresh cranberries. It tastes very different than the canned stuff. Plus you can make it in advance:

Take 1 bag fresh cranberries and cover with water in a pot. Add the juice and zest of 1 orange and 1/2 lemon, a tsp of vanilla, and about 1 1/2 cups sugar - taste as it cooks to get to desired sweetness.

Bring to a boil and simmer until the cranberries pop. Turn heat to low. On the side, dissolve 2 tbsp corn starch in 1/4 cup cold water. Add to the cranberries and let boil, stirring constantly. When it's thick and sweet, it's done. Chill.

Here's a delicious and easy salad that helps balance all that heavy food:

Take 1 cucumber, peel, quarter, and slice into bite-sized chunks. Take either 2 tomatoes or 1 bag cherry or grape tomatoes and divide into bite-sized pieces. Put in a bowl or tupperware container. Thinly slice half a shallot and add.

Break some fresh dill weed into pieces and add. Season with pepper and a good amount of salt. Add about 2 tbsp each of olive oil and wine vinegar (that's all - the veggies will weep and add moisture). Allow to chill, and serve cold.
Thanksgiving is a PAGAN Holiday !
